Red Hat (NASDAQ:RHAT), a provider of open source solutions, has announced the availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Beta 2.

According to the company, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Beta 2 includes a new integrated server and storage virtualisation solution, enabling an integrated virtualisation solution by coupling server virtualisation with Red Hat's clustering support. In addition, failover at either the application or virtual machine level is provided by Red Hat Cluster Suite, while Red Hat Global File System and Cluster Logical Volume Manager technology allows application data to be accessed and shared by any guest from any system.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is said to represent the result of nearly two years of development and Linux kernel enhancements accrued from version 2.6.9 to 2.6.18. It reportedly features enhancements to the kernel, network and I/O subsystems, which ensure high performance and scalability, as well as improved compiler and runtime buffer management technologies. In addition Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 includes improved desktop capabilities and new application development tools, the company claims.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is to be released in early 2007. No pricing details were disclosed.
