Worldwide Computer Products News-9 November 2006-Microsoft reveals Vista launch date for retail customers(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Software company Microsoft has revealed that its forthcoming Windows Vista operating system will be made available to retail customers from 30 January 2007.

Microsoft is introducing six versions of Vista, which includes new features such as an improved 3D interface, additional security, more search options and new sound and networking technologies. The versions include two for home use, three for business and one for developing nations, with prices expected to range from USD100 to USD399.

Vista, which will be the company's first new Windows version since 2001, is to be made available to corporate customers from 30 November.

The launch date may cause the company to lose out on the Christmas marketing period, so Microsoft has introduced coupons for free or discounted Vista versions to customers buying a PC with Windows XP over the holiday period. It estimated that the new system may generate a 10%, or greater, increase in Windows PC software sales in the financial year to 30 June 2007.
