Worldwide Computer Products News-20 April 2007-Dell reverses decision to stop selling new PCs with Windows XP(C)1995-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Computer company Dell has reversed a policy implemented in January 2007 and again started to sell new PCs with the Windows XP operating system from software company Microsoft.

Dell's policy meant that Microsoft's new Windows Vista operating system was the only one available on nearly all new home computers.

However the computer maker's Ideastorm feedback website received a substantial number of calls for the return of the Windows XP software, with the 'Don't eliminate XP just yet' suggestion gaining nearly 11,000 votes.

Dell has been working since January to phase the XP option out on new PCs and sold only two models with XP installed by March.

Dell confirmed that customers can now opt for the XP Home or Professional version on six models of Dell machines, including four Inspiron notebook models and two Dimension desktop PC models, but did not state how long this would continue for.

Microsoft, which has recently revealed that PC manufacturers will no longer be able to purchase new XP licences from the end of January 2008, claimed Dell was responding to a small minority of customers, according to BBC News.
