Chip manufacturer Intel Corporation has confirmed that it is to extend features for desktop business PCs under a new brand called Intel Centrino Pro processor technology, with Intel vPro processor technology to be incorporated into its forthcoming high-performance laptops.

Intel claimed the Centrino Pro processor technology, which will be available in the second quarter this year, will enable IT managers to manage and protect their notebooks over Wi-Fi. It said it will allow them to address security threats, resource allocation, asset management and cost of ownership, wirelessly, and manage wired notebooks and desktop PCs.

According to Intel this will ensure increased IT department compliance, better protected PCs, more accurate PC inventories, less interruption to business and less desk-side visits.

Intel said the new Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N component will allow users to move further away from access points, with support for the draft 802.11n specification, delivering up to twice the wireless range and five times the performance. It stated that users will also gain from improved graphics performance, support for Microsoft Windows Vista's Aero graphic interface and optional Intel Turbo Memory for faster performance and boot time.
