Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division (SDD), a hard disk drive (HDD) manufacturer, launched on Tuesday (21 August) the MK3252GSX, its 320GB, 2" hard disk drive.

According to the company, the dual-platter HDD features aerial density of 254Gb per square inch and 160GB capacity per platter. The drive also features Free Fall Sensor technology, which utilises an embedded optional motion sensor to detect if the drive is in free fall. In such cases, the hard disk drive immediately moves the read/write heads away from the spinning platter to prevent them damaging any data upon impact.

In addition to the high capacity HDD, Toshiba's new family of high performance hard disk drives will deliver speeds of 7,200rpm, the company said.

No pricing details were disclosed.
