Worldwide Computer Products News-24 August 2007-BT and SCEE unveil Go!Messenger wireless communications package for PSP(C)1995-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Details of Go!Messenger, a wireless communications package for the PSP (PlayStation Portable) gaming device, have been unveiled by communications solutions provider BT and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), the company responsible for the sales, marketing, distribution and software development for the PlayStation.

BT and SCEE have jointly developed Go!Messenger, which is due to be launched commercially in January 2008, introducing wireless communications features to the PSP, such as high quality video calls, voice calls and instant messaging.

The companies said the software for the PSP was developed in BT's research centre and will be available for download from the web or shared between users. Gamers will be able to keep in contact for free, via VoIP technology, and will be able to send instant messages to each other via a new onscreen keyboard when connected to wireless broadband at home or a public Wi-Fi hotspot.

In addition, the software will enable free calls and messages to various existing BT softphone products, along with paid calls to fixed and mobile phones, while a headset will allow gamers to use voice chat and leave voice messages, and use the Go!Cam video camera to make video calls and leave video messages.

BT will work with SCEE to promote the product in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain initially, and make the service available to regional wireless Internet providers and device manufacturers on a wholesale basis.
