AuthenTec, a provider of fingerprint sensor security systems, reported on 16 February that its advanced fingerprint sensors are being used by Packard Bell, a home PC brand, for its new EasyNote BU45 12" notebook PC.
The notebook uses AuthenTec's EntrePad AES1610 sensor, and is the second product from Packard Bell to integrate the AES1610.

The AES1610 fingerprint sensor enables authorised users to log on to the PC via a slide of their finger across the sensor. It also gives access to personal online banking, e-mail and other websites which have passwords. AuthenTec said that the fingerprint sensor allows users to restrict access to the PC and aids theft and fraud prevention.
Each AuthenTec sensor uses the company's patented TruePrint technology, which reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer, where the true fingerprint resides. The technology involved provides extremely accurate readings and allows AuthenTec to create sensors that are smaller, the company claims.
