Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has revealed it is to work with KT Freetel Co, a Korean operator, to develop a USB-interfacing High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) data terminal for PCs, as part of the companies' joint purchasing agreement.

The two mobile operators will complete the development project via their Business and Technology Cooperation Committee, an organisation which works to promote joint purchasing, established when they signed a strategic alliance in December 2005.

NTT DoCoMo said the terminal will be marketed as FOMA A2502 HIGH-SPEED in Japan, available as soon as autumn 2007, for users requiring fast mobile packet transmissions via their PCs. It will offer up to 3.6Mb/s download speeds, with a maximum 384kb/s uplinks, in HSDPA service areas in Japan, with international 3G roaming also available.

The terminal also offers maximum uplinks and downlinks at 384kb/s in the FOMA service area and is compliant with Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional Windows XP Home Edition and Windows 2000 Professional (Japanese versions only).
