The new AOL Internet Security Central has been launched by web services company AOL, providing a suite of free safety and security tools intended to ensure a safer and more secure online experience and provide PC protection.

AOL said the offering, which can be found at http://safety.aol.com, includes the new McAfee VirusScan Plus from security technology company McAfee. This is a special edition from AOL and offers protection against viruses, spyware and intruders, at no extra charge to users with a free AOL or AIM screen name.

AOL claimed the combination of its Parental Controls and security features and McAfee's security service enables it to provide a safer experience for users and their PCs. The special edition VirusScan Plus features virus and spyware protection, a two-way firewall, behaviour-based threat protection, PC performance tools and protection against stealth threats.
