Computer maker Apple Inc has said that more than one million copies of the new Safari for Windows browser were downloaded in the first 48 hours after the free public beta was made available on Monday (11 June).

The requirements for Safari 3 for Windows are the Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system, a minimum of 256MB of memory and a system with at least a 500 MHz Intel Pentium processor. The software can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.apple.com/safari.> Safari 3 is claimed to be the fastest available browser running on Windows. According to Apple it delivers web pages up to twice as fast as Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2, based on the industry standard iBench tests.
