Worldwide Computer Products News-28 June 2007-Samsung's GDDR4 memory chip selected for AMD's graphics cards(C)1995-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The GDDR4 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 4) high-speed graphics memory chip from Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, an advanced memory technology company, has been selected for the 1GB ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT and the 256MB ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics processing cards from Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD) (AMD), a provider of processing solutions.

AMD said it selected the GDDR4 memory for its graphics cards because the design complements its strategy in providing technology to a wider enthusiast gaming market. Samsung claimed the memory allows mainstream and premium ATI Radeon HD 2000 series cards to perform at optimal levels.

The GDDR4-based 512MB graphics cards are built with 80 nanometer process technology, offer 140.8Gb/s performance and are reportedly 25% faster than 700MHz GDDR3 graphics memory. GDDR4 is able to process video images in desktop PCs, notebooks and workstations, in simultaneously moving volumes of HD or other high-resolution video, quickly.

According to Samsung, which claimed to have developed the first GDDR4 device in 2006, the GDDR4 memory devices are in mass production now at the 512MB density level.
