Electronics manufacturer Sony announced on Monday (14 May) the launch of the new FZ Series notebook, as well as updates to a number of its models.

According to the company, the VAIO FZ-Series notebook is based on the Intel Centrino platform configured with up to 2GB of RAM, and features a widescreen 15.4in X-black LCD, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT notebook graphics processing unit (GPU), an integrated Blu-ray Disc optical drive (model VGN-FZ11Z), an HDMI output with HDCP, integrated webcam and three USB 2.0 ports. Processor choices include the Intel Core 2 Duo Processors T7100 and T7300 and hard disk sizes go up to 200GB.

In addition, the VAIO N30-Series now includes the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 2GB of memory, a 120GB hard disc and an SD card and Sony Memory Stick slot. The new range offers a wider choice of configurations, so that customers are able to select the right notebook for their needs, the company claims. The VAIO BX40 Series features dual core Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 processor (model VGN-BX41VN), 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 GPU with 128MB of dedicated video memory (model VGN-BX41VN), as well as a fingerprint recognition system combined with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) hardware-level protection.

The company also announced improvements to the VAIO AR40-Series. The VGN-AR41S now features Intel Core2 Duo Processor T7500 with a 320GB hard drive, and enables users to edit their personal HD video content and then burn it onto a Dual Layer 50GB Blu-ray drive. The model includes a 17in double lamp X-black LCD widescreen display capable of 1080p Full HD and an integrated hybrid digital/analogue TV tuner complete with remote control.

No pricing details were disclosed.
