Worldwide Computer Products News-5 November 2007-RIM introduces new BlackBerry Professional Software solution for SMBs(C)1995-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The new BlackBerry Professional Software wireless communications and collaboration solution has been introduced by wireless solutions provider Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM) (TSX:RIM), integrating e-mail servers and designed to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

RIM said the software is based on the core functionality of its BlackBerry Enterprise Server software but is streamlined and adapted to suit the requirements of smaller organisations with up to 30 wireless users.

The main features include a small IT Footprint, installing on the same server as the e-mail system, saving the cost of additional hardware and operating system licences; and simple installation with a Pre-install Assistant utility. It offers support for e-mail systems, providing integration with Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino, with synchronised wireless services such as access to e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes.

In addition the solution offers a simplified BlackBerry Manager Interface for easy management; advanced security using the same security architecture and encryption system as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server; and BlackBerry Mobile Data System (MDS) Support.

The solution is intended to allow SMBs to improve communications and collaboration with an enterprise grade mobility solution, enabling user-friendly wireless access to Internet, e-mail, organiser and intranet applications with advanced security. It is priced from USD499 for five users and USD849 for ten users, with both packages expandable, through the purchase of further standard Client Access Licences (CAL), and is upgradeable to BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
