Worldwide Computer Products News-11 October 2007-FibreCAT SX88 and TX08 introduced by Fujitsu Siemens(C)1995-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, a European IT provider, has announced two new models in its FibreCAT family.

According to the company, the new models, FibreCAT SX88 and FibreCAT TX08, have been designed to meet the needs of small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) and are characterised by high availability, reliability and speed combined with simple set-up and operation.

The new FibreCAT SX88 is reportedly up to 50% faster than the previous top-of-the-range FibreCAT SX80 model and supports a 4Gb/s fibre-channel connection throughout the system. All of the important components, including RAID controllers, fans, power supply and hard disks, are redundant and hot-swappable. Users can choose between SATA-II or SAS disks, or a combination of the two in a single enclosure. The product is scalable up to 42TB and is particularly suitable for such applications as databases, backup-to-disk and streaming media. In addition, it features FibreCap technology, which protects the contents of the RAID controller cache from data loss in the event of a power failure.

The new FibreCAT TX08 uses LTO technology, which combines high capacity and speed with low media costs. The tape system has two magazines and four slots, and can be equipped with either an LTO-2 or LTO-3 drive. The device is 1U in height, provides 6.4TB of storage capacity (compressed), and can be used as an automated daily data backup for eight days. In addition, it offers a number of value-added extras at no additional cost, including a built-in barcode reader facilitating media management, and a full version of the BrightStor ARCserve backup software, the company said.

The FibreCAT SX88 is available now with prices starting at GBP5410 (ex VAT), while the FibreCAT TX08 is to be available from 1 November, 2007, priced at approximately GBP2564 (ex VAT).
