Worldwide Computer Products News-4 February 2008-NEC Computers adds five servers to NEC EXPRESS5800 range(C)1995-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

PC manufacturer NEC Computers, a subsidiary of NEC Corp (Nasdaq:NIPNY), announced on Friday (1 February) the addition of five new servers to expand its NEC Express5800 range.

According to the company, the NEC Express5800 range has been designed to satisfy the needs of medium-sized businesses and public bodies. It is particularly suited to host key applications such as domain servers/DNS/DHCP/Active Directory/e-mail, local DBMS's and collaborative applications.

Among the five new models, the 120Eh2, 120Ei and 120Lj models are towers, and the 120Rh-1 and 120Rj-2 are offered in rack format. The servers are based on the second generation of Intel Xeon processors, either dual (Intel Xeon 5200) or quad core (Intel Xeon 5400). With 45nm technology, the processors reportedly deliver 25% more performance for 40% less power consumption compared to the previous version.

All servers contain a new unified RAID secure data storage solution - a single controller, integrated into the server motherboards, which offers RAID 0, 1, 5 or 6, with or without backup battery, on SAS or SATA disks simultaneously, either 2.5" or 3.5". In addition, the new models feature TPM 1.2 (Trusted Platform Module), a cryptographic system designed to allow the users to increase the security of their data by encrypting it in real time.

Each NEC Express5800 server is delivered with a remote management solution, which offers the following tools: enhanced operation and administration; administration of groups of servers; remote access and support (KVM /IP, Remote Media); as well as installation and configuration, the company said.

Pricing starts at GBP1199 (ex. VAT) for NEC Express5800/120Eh2 and GBP1899 (ex. VAT) for NEC Express5800/120Rj-2.
