Intel Corporation (Nasdaq:INTC), a semiconductor manufacturer and producer of microprocessors, today (15 July) unveiled its latest mobile processors intended for laptop use and promised a further eight new processors within the next 90 days.

Intel report that some 250 new products based on the Intel Core 2 Duo processors and/or the new wireless chipset are currently being developed by various manufacturers.

At the same time, Intel also announced that it has begun shipping its Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset and wireless Intel Wi-Fi Link 5000 series, with OEMs promising that products based on the chipset will arrive in the shops in late July or early August. The wireless chipset supports the draft 80.11N standard, which can support transmission speeds of up to 450Mb/s.

The most powerful CPU announced today was the Intel Core 3 Extreme processor which runs at 3.06 GHz as measured by the SPECint 1 _rate_base2006 benchmark. Three of the models announced reduce power wattage to 25watts. The processors have the ability to selectively turn off power to subcomponents when the systems are idle to reduce power consumption and extend battery time.
