WorkLight Inc, a developer of server products that consumerize the corporate computing experience, launched on Monday (9 June) WorkLight for SharePoint, a new product that allows employees to securely access and update Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 information using popular Internet consumer tools.

The announcement is part of a new strategic relationship between WorkLight and software company Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT).

According to the company, WorkLight for SharePoint combines the collaborative capabilities of Office SharePoint Server 2007 with popular consumer social networks such as Facebook, personalized homepage gadgets, desktop widgets, RSS or mobile devices. The solution enables companies to leverage SharePoint Server 2007's collaboration, portal, enterprise search, enterprise content management, business intelligence and business process capabilities using consumer web-based gadgets.

The solution reportedly enables companies and employees to: access SharePoint Server 2007 information via consumer web-based and desktop gadgets, running on a wide range of platforms; receive notifications originating from SharePoint Server 2007 on mobile devices such as iPhone and BlackBerry; view and revise enterprise application data from secure gadgets running as SharePoint Server 2007 Web Parts; as well as search for colleagues and expertise in the organization across both SharePoint Server 2007 and Facebook, using WorkBook, WorkLight's secure Facebook application.
