The next Windows operating system from software company Microsoft will reportedly incorporate multi-touch features as an alternative to the mouse.
The new fingertip interface is expected to be released in 2009 and will enable users to enlarge and reduce photos, paint pictures, trace routes on maps or play the piano.
Company chairman Bill Gates claimed the new Windows will change the way users interact with the system substantially and confirmed Windows 7 will include new communication and interaction forms.

Microsoft's chief executive Steve Ballmer said the limited demo of the multi-touch screen represents a small part of the next Windows version.
Gates, who is due to retire from his daily duties at Microsoft on 1 July 2008, confirmed he will be focusing more time on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and spending less time at the company. He will remain as Microsoft chairman, keep an office in Redmond and spend time writing, thinking and working on projects including the next generation Microsoft Office, according to BBC News.
