Motorola unveils software enhancement for CherryPicker Application Platform

A new software enhancement for the CherryPicker Application Platform (CAP-1000) has been unveiled by Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT), a communications company.

Motorola said the CAP-1000 now offers MPEG-2 rate shaping, ad insertion and statistical multiplexing, in addition to MPEG-4 Rate Shaping. It reportedly gives operators the density, flexibility and high availability needed to maximise bandwidth usage; increase advertising inventory value; and target ads which are most relevant to any individual video stream.

The CAP-1000 v2.0 represents the next generation of the company's series of CherryPicker products, with the original version expanded via software upgrade to offer full Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) support and high-density MPEG-2 rate shaping, complementing current MPEG-4 capabilities.

According to Motorola, the new version offers a scalable Element Manager which uses current infrastructure to support addressable advertising, while providing the flexibility to scale for future ultra-high density scenarios. It confirmed the CAP-1000 and enhanced software was developed using the code base of the DM6400 CherryPicker, an application platform for localised video and targeted ad insertion.
