Iomega, a developer of data protection and security products and an EMC company (NYSE:EMC), announced on 16 September the release of its new Iomega eGo Helium portable hard drive.
The USD 2.0 320GB drive is compatible with Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Iomega said that the drive is suitable for use with the MacBook Air notebook and free downloadable backup software for both Mac computers and Windows-based computers is available from Mozy, another EMC company. One of the available applications gives users access to on-line backup storage for a monthly subscription.
The 2.5" drive is enclosed in an anodized aluminium shell and is 16 mm thick (0.63 inches) and weighs only 200 grams (7 ounces). The drive as supplied is formatted with Apple's HFS+ file system. Computer users running the Windows XP or Vista operating systems can reformat the eGo Helium drive to NTFS for use with Windows only, or it can be formatted as Fat 32 for use with both Macs and Windows PCs. Power is supplied over the USB connection and data is protected by Iomega's Drop Guard feature.
The drives will be available in October with an MSRP of GBP99.99.
