Microsoft teams up for ASP concept promotion

A new programme aimed at promoting the Application Service Provision (ASP) concept called Applications2GO has been created by Microsoft Corp, ESOFT Global and Compaq Computer Limited.

ASP refers to the delivery of application software over the Internet as a service rather than as a product - a market that is expected to grow at a rate of about 90% per annum in Europe.

ASP is predicted to result in two major changes for customers using business software, including changes to the way in which applications are deployed and supported and also the way they are financed - with a price per user per month rental-style payment system expected to be the most common.

The Applications2GO programme is designed to help software vendors expedite their application through the ASP-enablement process which produces a `standard` application that can be delivered through the Internet.
