IBM has introduced software to enable businesses to create electronic marketplaces that interact with mobile devices.

Claimed to be the first software of its kind, IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite, Marketplace Edition provides a fully-integrated secure e-commerce solution to connect buyers and sellers. The software can interact with wireless devices through WAP and SMS, enabling web sites to keep in touch with customers at any time - eg, by sending notifications about an online auction to bidders.

WebSphere Commerce Suite, Marketplace Edition offers all of the tools needed to establish an electronic marketplace including various trading models such as exchange and auctions, secure membership registration and access control management, and business intelligence and reporting functions.
