Foundry Networks launches Layer 3 LAN switch

CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The switching and routing systems provider Foundry Networks has enhanced its FastIron Enterprise switching product family with the FastIron III high-density Layer 3 LAN switch.

Designed for enterprise core and wiring closet LAN distribution networks, the new switch offers up to 336 10/100Mb/s ports or up to 120Gb Ethernet fire or copper ports within a compact design. The product also comes with an aggregated switching capacity of 480Gb/s and a non-blocking switch fabric.

Other features include protection against malicious attacks or break-ins, support for wire-speed forwarding and routing for IP and IPX and full support for IP protocols such as RIP-I and OSPF.

FastIron III is expected to be available in November. Pricing will begin at GBP28,695.
