CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

The London-based IT systems provider ICL and the US storage software developer FalconStor Inc have formed an alliance.

Under the partnership ICL will combine FalconStor's IPStor technology, which offers a virtualised IP-based storage system, with its own existing server capability into a storage management software solution called SoftStor. Virtualisation gives the ability to pool storage resources to create virtual disks for a company's IT applications as they are required, to allow more effective use of storage resources.

ICL plans to provide virtualised storage management systems and services immediately using Solaris 2.8 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The offerings will be targeted at medium and large-sized companies.
