Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) has enhanced several of its Unix product lines with next generation PA-8700 processors.

Based on PA-RISC technology, the PA-8700 processor is available at operating frequencies of 650MHz and 750MHz, featuring 0.75Mb of on-chip cache and 1.50Mb of instruction cache. The processor's copper interconnect allows it to run cooler than the earlier PA-8600 processor, with lower power consumption and high conductivity throughput providing faster performance and enhanced reliability.

The new processor is currently available for the high-end HP Server Superdome, the mid-range HP Server rp7400, the new HP Server rp8400 system and the HP Workstations c3700 and j6700. Later this year it is also expected to become available on other HP Unix systems.
