Enterprise storage software solutions supplier Legato Systems has completed a survey on e-mail use and storage and found that 46% of all UK companies are not familiar with the legal and contractual requirements.

Other results showed that 32% of all UK companies do not have a formal e-mail usage policy, even though 36% have sought legal advice on e-mail compliance issues. When it comes to disputes 41% of all companies have used e-mail to resolve an internal issue while 39% have used it to settle a disagreement with a supplier.

A spokesperson for Legato said that e-mail management and policy should be a major concern of UK businesses as organisations become increasingly reliant on e-mail systems.
