New IBM server holds record for transaction processing

IBM has revealed its latest server offering - an eServer pSeries system with 32 POWER4 processors.

The company claims that the new server offering together with DB2 Universal Database and the AIX UNIX operating system has managed to achieve a new world record for transaction processing. The package managed to carry out 680,613.12 transactions per minute at a cost of USD11.13.

IBM is planning to release the eServer pSeries with 32-way 1.7GHz POWER4 processors on 11 August 2003. To date, no pricing information has been revealed.
