META Group reports rise in IT security spending

CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

IT research, advisory services and consulting company META Group Inc has observed that the majority of companies increased their IT security budgets over the course of 2003.

The increase in IT security spending has come despite the majority of companies keeping their IT budgets at the same level as the previous year, according to the company.

A total of 66% of all those companies questioned made room in their IT budgets for 2003 to increase their spending on security. Throughout 2003 companies spent an average of 8.2% of their budget on IT security compared to 7.6% in 2002 and just 3.2% in 2001.
