Sun Microsystems has announced that it will be working with management subsystems provider Pigeon Point Systems as it begins to develop the next generation of Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) blade server products.

The California-based company said that through its relationship with Pigeon Point Systems it has been able to accelerate its development of the next generation Netra ATCA blade server family of products. Sun Microsystems plans to offer a complete ATCA blade solution, which will support both UltraSPARC and Opteron blades along with Solaris and CG Linux in the same system, during 2005.

A spokesperson for Sun Microsystems said that adoption of the ATCA standard is gathering pace and that the company is determined that it will be able to offer a low cost ATCA solution through its links with leading developers such as Pigeon Point.
