Aladdin Knowledge Systems Inc (Nasdaq: ALDN) has said that its eSafe product is the only gateway-based content security product available today that efficiently protects against the new JPEG threat.

The company has said that the Microsoft GDI JPEG exploit (see the Microsoft security bulletin MS04-028 at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-028.mspx) reportedly allows an attacker to execute malicious code when an infected JPEG image is viewed with vulnerable applications. Aladdin said that this includes numerous Microsoft applications as well as many applications developed using Microsoft GDI libraries.

According to Aladdin most gateway-level security solutions inspect incoming e-mail attachments, not all inspect JPEGS and other content in HTTP and the company's research has reportedly found that almost 15% of all malicious code arrives from non e-mail protocols, which makes it vital to inspect HTTP traffic.
