Technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) announced on Tuesday (8 November) the introduction of the IBM System Storage N5000, a new series of networked storage systems.

The N5000 series represents the second technology offering resulting from IBM's relationship with Network Appliance (NasdaqNM:NTAP) which was announced in April.

The N5000 series is designed to help midrange customers reduce their total cost of ownership, particularly enterprises operating distributed networks across remote sites, and addresses a wide range of data storage needs.

IBM said that it plans to make the N5000 series generally available on 9 December 2005 in both single and dual storage controller models, with list prices for the N5200 starting at approximately USD60,000, and for the N5500 starting at approximately USD85,000.
