CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

SonicWALL Inc (Nasdaq:SNWL), a provider of integrated network security, mobility and productivity solutions, revealed on Monday (10 October) that according to the findings of its recent survey of over 1,000 IT administrators in small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) find there is lack of choice available to meet the demand for remote network access.

The survey showed that respondents rated affordability, security and ease of use as the main factors influencing the selection of remote access technology. Solutions combining all three features were however limited.

According to SonicWALL, nearly half of the those questioned believed that SSL VPN would be a desirable option for remote access, although over 80% believed that existing SSL VPN solutions were priced beyond their reach. In addition the survey demonstrated that more than 80% of SMBs use some kind of VPN connectivity to enable remote and mobile workers to access their networks.

In response to the survey findings SonicWALL has launched a new SSL-VPN appliance range, which allows an unlimited number of concurrent users to make use of each device. The solution from SonicWALL also offers integration with third party firewalls and provides scalable remote access.

No pricing information was available.

RE: Businesses frustrated with restricted remote access option ...

Though SSL VPNs are good, they do not have an integrated firewall, which poses a major security risk. A better option for a secure remote access would be on-premise solutions, which provide the ultimate protection of one?s own firewall. As far as the cost is concerned, there are vendors such as RHUB (http://www.rhubcom.com/), well-known for their affordability.
