Information Technology company IBM (NYSE: IBM) has unveiled a new technology, codenamed 'SecureBlue', that will increase the security of consumer products, medical devices, defense systems and digital media.

According to the company, SecureBlue protects the confidentiality and integrity of information on a device through encryption, and is the first technology to make encryption practical even for low-cost, relatively low performance electronics.

SecureBlue can reportedly be built into a microprocessor chip, protecting the security of the chip and other parts of a microprocessor-based device, and its security extends to all the information on a device including documents, presentations and software as well as the keys that are used for communications security or digital signatures.

No pricing details were disclosed.
