IBM announces BladeCenter solutions for retail industry

CORPORATE IT UPDATE-(C)1995-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Information technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) announced on Monday (16 January)new solutions based on its BladeCenter platform to help retail customers manage remote store environments more economically and efficiently.

According to the company, the Systems Solutions for Retail Stores will help to optimise technology infrastructure by consolidating all in-store servers, storage, networking and applications in a single physical package with a common management infrastructure.The solutions will reportedly help retailers to improve operational efficiency.

The initial Systems Solution for Retail Stores offering is based on IBM's BladeCenter and is aimed at larger retailers. It is available immediately, with deployment services through IBM Global Services and selected IBM Business Partners.

The xSeries solution is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2006.
