Brocade Communications Systems Inc (Nasdaq:BRCD), a shared storage solutions provider, has announced that it has launched a new 4Gb/s embedded Storage Area Network (SAN) switch module (Brocade SilkWorm 4016) for IT provider Fujitsu Siemens Computers' blade server line.

According to the company, the Brocade 4Gb/s Fibre Channel SAN switch module provides simple connectivity for server and storage infrastructure in the data centre. It is fully integrated into the Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY BX600 chassis and requires no external rack or compute space, enabling customers to save both space and energy costs. The Brocade custom chip technology in the switch module is optimised for low energy consumption and uses approximately 2W per port depending on configuration, the company claims.

The Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY BX600 blade server with integrated Brocade SAN switch module will reportedly feature a 16-port 4Gb/s integrated Brocade SAN switch design. In addition, Fujitsu Siemens Computers customers will be able to take advantage of advanced Brocade SAN technology, including Inter-Switch Link (ISL) Trunking, Advanced Performance Monitoring, Secure Fabric OS, Fabric Manager, Fabric Watch, and hot code load/activation.

In a separate announcement, Brocade announced SAN market leadership or growth across all segments, including the SAN modules for bladed servers, according to recent industry analyst reports. No financial or pricing details were disclosed.
