The Intel Storage Server SSR212MC2 has been introduced by chip manufacturer Intel Corporation, providing a hardware platform, powered by the quad-core Intel Xeon processor 5300 series, intended for the small to medium sized business (SMB) market.
Intel said the SSR212MC2 is the first 2U, 12 drive, integrated quad-core storage server to be introduced in the industry and confirmed it can be configured as a broad range of enterprise and small business storage solutions.

Intel claimed the SSR212MC2 offers over twice the performance improvement of its previous product generation and offers a high-performing building block for integrators and resellers to build effective solutions. It offers an option to incorporate one or two Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 series processors, along with a choice of enterprise-class Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) or high-capacity Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives.
The SSR212MC2 uses Xyratex's 2U chassis, will cost USD2,800 without RAID controller and USD3,600 with the Intel SRCSAS144e RAID Controller, and will be available from next month. Intel worked with companies including Microsoft, Open-E, Open SuSe, RedHat and FalconStor, which are supporting the SSR212MC2, to validate and ensure easy integration of operating systems and/or applications with the new platform.
