An EDRM system from TOWER Software, an enterprise content management (ECM) provider, has been selected by Erewash Borough Council in the UK to reduce the cost and physical storage space requirements of its paper documents and files.

The council expects the TRIM Context system, which will integrate with its current Singularity business process management system and Northgate CRM system, to eliminate the double handling, loss and difficulty in locating files. It said the EDRM system will manage up to 3m documents and save the council an estimated GBP80,000 in space and storage costs once fully deployed.

According to Erewash Borough Council, TRIM Context allows it to pick up e-mail and documents such as Word, and integrate them, as well as enabling it to move away from paper-based systems. TOWER Software said its Professional Services team has worked with and advised the council's team on scanning and indexing and confirmed the council is now scanning post at source and managing it within the EDRM system.

The EDRM system will be introduced to all the council's departments, on a business case basis, by early 2009.
