Extreme Networks Inc (Nasdaq:EXTR), a provider of Ethernet infrastructure solutions, announced on Thursday (13 December) the completion of a new network infrastructure to support a trust-wide Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) solution at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Essex, UK including the new Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC).
The network, installed by Scalable Networks, an integrator providing secure, converged network solutions, has reportedly been designed to meet the Trust's current and future performance and availability needs, including headroom for new generation applications and imaging systems.

The new PACS system is expected to facilitate the delivery of complex radiology and cardio images across the Trust, improving efficiency, waiting times and overall patient care.
According to the company, the Scalable Networks solution for the Trust features multiple Extreme Networks Black Diamond switches, multiple Summit X450e edge switches and Summit X450a server switching, dual Wireless WM 2000 controllers and numerous Altitude Access Points.
In addition, the Draeger Infinity Solution, a Patient Monitoring System that allows a monitor to automatically switch from wired to wireless networking while keeping all parameters, was also implemented, enabling hospital staff to continuously monitor patients, even during transport.
