A contract to implement the first phase of a new Identity Management solution has been awarded to Salford Software, a software sales, training, consultancy and web design company, by Aberdeen City Council in the UK.

The solution is to be implemented immediately with an initial rollout phase at the end of April. Once completed it will provide a single identity supporting 14,000 government employees in around 100 council sites in the Aberdeen area. It will control access to central IT systems such as the main computer systems, employee identity badges and access to buildings.

An ID vault will be created during phase one of the contract. This will store relevant employee data, with an employee 'white page' created across the council sites that will to go live on the council's phone and e-mail systems. The solution will later be used to connect other core systems, with HR expected to drive the provisioning of other systems.

According to the council, it required a solution which would enable provisioning of various services to the necessary employees while allowing data to be updated simultaneously across each relevant service or department.
