Software company Microsoft Corp announced on Thursday (15 November) the launch of Microsoft Office Accounting 2008, which will enable small businesses to more effectively manage their business finances.
According to the company, Microsoft Office Accounting integrates with Excel, Word and Outlook, and imports existing financial data from other applications, such as Excel and Sage. Small businesses can also enhance the solution with add-on hosted services such as Office Live for sharing financial data with accountants, PayPal for invoicing customers, Bacs for electronic payments and integrated payroll for managing employee data and calculating payroll.

The solution was reportedly developed to meet the needs of UK small businesses. After testing, it has been certified by both the HMRC and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICEAW) as compliant with regulation and accountancy guidelines.
Two versions of Office Accounting are available. Office Accounting Express is free and is designed for new and home-based businesses, while Office Accounting Professional costs GBP149.95 and offers additional features such as stock management, job costing and multi-user access. Both versions, including a free 60 day trial of Office Accounting Professional, are available for download from http://www.msofficeaccounting.co.uk.
In addition, Microsoft announced the creation of Microsoft Professional Accountants' Network. This programme will be free for the first year and offers accountants access to free software, training, support and community resources. For a limited time, the company is offering charter members of the programme a free copy of Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2008 with a year of free product support, and a free copy of Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2007, a total value of over GBP500.
