The introduction of ISIS, a secure government Intranet launched by Orange Business Services, the business services division of telecomms company France Telecom Group, to serve government departments and enable classified defence information to be shared in real-time, has been announced by France's Department of National Defence (the SGDN).

According to France Telecom, the SGDN selected Orange Business Services to develop and install the inter-ministerial network, based upon its experience in providing secure electronic communications services.

The network, which has been introduced over ten sites so far, including the Elysee Palace, Matignon and the Ministries for Amenities, Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Health and Defence, was developed for government departments such as the cabinet, ministries, defence and security services and operations centres.

The ISIS network offers access to services for every day use and in times of an emergency/crisis situation and include a portal for consulting and enriching a documentary base containing classified and sensitive information in real-time. ISIS also provides a common working area which can be accessed from any workstation on the ISIS network; an inter-ministerial crisis directory and secure e-mail; 24/7 user support to ensure service continuity; and the option of an information-sharing space for crisis management.
