A USD73m five and one-half year outsourcing agreement to provide Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES), a global integrated energy company headquartered in New York, with global IT infrastructure services, has been announced by computer company IBM (NYSE:IBM).

According to IBM, it will provide global IT infrastructure services such as 24/7 monitoring; management and early problem detection and resolution for Hess's servers and global network; service desk services; asset tracking services; end user support services; and centralised remote desk-side management services, under the contract terms.

IBM said Hess will benefit from its global delivery network, substantial research capabilities and understanding of the petroleum industry. IBM will update Hess's current server environment with the most up to date IBM System x and System p servers, enabling Hess to reduce overall IT infrastructure costs, introduce best-in-class procedures and improve service delivery.

IBM claimed the agreement will enable Hess to increase its focus on strategic areas of its business and look at new generation technologies which can help visualise, virtualise and integrate business processes more efficiently.
