DigitalRoute, a provider of embedded and standalone mediation, announced on Friday (22 February) that Swisscom, a telecomms company in Switzerland, has launched its first services using DigitalRoute's MediationZone.

According to the company, Swisscom has deployed MediationZone for its 'One Mediation' architecture, which provides convergence of services independently of access network. Initially, the solution has been deployed for a VoIP- and a mobile data product. This will be followed later by a stepwise deployment of new services, in parallel with the phased replacement of Swisscom's legacy fixed and mobile mediation systems.

Swisscom reportedly selected MediationZone for its capabilities to support the operator's next-generation IMS architecture, as well as: online/active and offline mediation in one convergent mediation platform; carrier-grade functionality and scalability; flexibility enabling full self-sufficiency for Swisscom; and a low cost-of-ownership, across license, services, third-party products.

The solution provides a horizontal online and offline mediation layer in a single platform, enabling new network technologies and services to be introduced and leading the way towards pre- and post-paid convergence. Swisscom is using the platform to enable rollout of any services delivered over its PSTN, HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, GPRS and WLAN networks, the company said.

No financial details were disclosed.
