Qwest International Inc (NYSE: Q), a US telecomms operator, announced on 23 October that the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected the company to provide a range of voice and data services to connect the agency's centres and facilities across the country.

The contract, awarded to Qwest Government Services in Arlington, Va, under NASA's Networx Universal programme, is for a nine year term and is valued at approximately USD18m. It covers the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, the Johnson Space Center in Texas and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.

Qwest said that this is the latest major award Qwest has received under Networx, which provides comprehensive communications and networking services and technical solutions to all federal agencies. Recently, the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) selected Qwest to deliver voice and data services to connect the VA's headquarters in Washington, DC and nearly 1,300 hospitals, regional offices and other facilities across the nation.
