PA Consulting Group, a management, systems and technology consulting firm, has developed an important element of a new LTE test system for Catapult Communications Corporation (NasdaqGS:CATT), a supplier of digital telecomms test systems.

The new equipment is understood to allow for simulating and testing the performance of the next generation of cellular base-stations during their development. The base-stations use LTE (Long Term Evolution), the next stage in the development of the third generation cellular communications standard. It employs new techniques to achieve theoretical wireless broadband data rates of up to 100Mb/s.

According to the company, PA has applied its experience of flexible radio solutions and skills in system design, signal processing, embedded software and electronic design to deliver the new equipment. The company's development programme has delivered the Physical Layer (PHY) processing to Catapult, enabling the delivery of complete test systems by early 2009.
