Zeneca, Cambridge to Collaborate - Brief Article

Applied Genetics News,  Jan, 2000

Cambridge Discovery Chemistry, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oxford Molecular Group plc (The Medawar Centre, Oxford Science Park, Oxford OX4 4GA, U.K.; Tel: +44 1865 784600, Fax: +44 1865 784601), and Zeneca Agrochemicals, the crop protection and plant science business of AstraZeneca plc (15 Stanhope Gate, London W1Y 6LN, U.K.; Tel: 171-304-5000, Fax: 171-304-5151; Website: astrazeneca.com), have announced a major chemistry R&D collaboration.

Cambridge Discovery Chemistry will take over responsibility for Zeneca's chemistry research facility within Zeneca's R&D Centre in San Francisco, CA. Research carried out by Cambridge Discovery Chemistry will be funded, for a defined period, by Zeneca Agrochemicals, providing flexibility in managing the level of resources required in its discovery programs.

"This collaboration offers us the opportunity to combine world-class combinatorial chemistry expertise in a flexible research arrangement which will greatly benefit both our businesses," says David Evans, Zeneca Agrochemicals' director of research and development.

"This agreement will allow us to expand our chemistry capacity and establish a high-quality research base in the U.S.," adds Allan Marchington, CEO of Cambridge Discovery Chemistry.
