Axis Genetics has been granted a U.S. patent protection of its chimeric virus particle peptide display technology, trademarked Epicoat, with which the company is developing plant derived vaccines that target mucosal immunity. On the day the patent was issued, Axis signed a deal with Roche Vitamins, Inc., an affiliate of F.
Hoffman-La Roche, Ltd., in which the two companies will jointly evaluate Epicoat for use in the field of animal nutrition and health applications. Axis will produce vaccines that the two companies will test to determine whether the orally administered vaccines will stimulate mucosal immunity in the gastrointestinal tract of farm animals.
