UCC launches healthcare registry

Frontline Solutions, June, 2004

The Uniform Code Council Inc. is establishing a Global Location Number (GLN) Registry for the healthcare industry to help reduce supply chain costs and aid technology adoption. The 13-digit GLN could provide a unique identification number for functional entities, such as a nursing station; a physical entity, such as a warehouse or a hospital wing; or a legal entity or trading partner, such as a specific company or supplier. The GLN Registry for Healthcare will provide a list of healthcare facilities, with corresponding GLNs, in the U.S. Subscribers will be able to access an updated and accurate list of industry manufacturers, distributors, retailers, hospitals, clinics, and retail and mail-order pharmacies.
