Outsourced logistics providers optimistic

Frontline Solutions, June, 2004

A recent survey by the International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) shows that most third-party logistics providers (3PLs) expect business to grow this year.

According to the IWLA, approximately 8% of the FORTUNE 500 currently outsource supply chain functions to logistics companies, twice the percentage of 10 years ago.

The study found that more than one-third of IWLA members polled this spring expect double-digit revenue gains this year. Another 35% expect increases of between 5% and 1%.

Technology spending among 3PLs will also increase. Of those planning technology purchases, 24% expect those costs to increase greatly. Another 57% expect moderate increases.
