Game Show Net Puts Interactive Spin on Old Shows

Cable World, March 10, 2003

Byline: JON LAFAYETTE

Who says you can't teach a new dog new tricks? For the first time, Game Show Network is adding a modern interactive component to some of its classic game shows.

Beginning March 17, viewers will be able to log onto the Game Show Network website and play along with the contestants on The Match Game and Family Feud.

"We're looking forward to giving new life to these shows through interactivity," said John Roberts, SVP of interactive entertainment for Game Show. In addition to allowing viewers to play along with the old videotape, Game Show has created updated questions and surveys using some of the network's current show hosts, including Chuck Woolery and Kennedy.

Viewers who log on can win prizes as part of the network's Watch and Win sweepstakes.

GoldPocket Interactive's Event-Matrix ITV system powers the interactive elements of the two shows.

Game Show already offers 65 hours a week of interactivity with its original programming. Roberts said 88% of the network's interactive audience is 18-to-49 years old, and that those viewers should be attracted to the classic shows as well.

Interactive programming has drawn 30 advertisers including Kraft, Playstation, Burger King, Discover Card and Playstation. Sponsorships for the interactive components of the classic games will be offered to advertisers during the upfront. "We haven't shown it to anyone yet," Roberts said.
